Development and implementation of VUV-CD and LD measurement beamline using a polarizing undulator at TERAS BL-5

چکیده
We have developed and improved the beamline for vacuum ultraviolet circular dichroism (VUV-CD) and linear dichroism (VUV-LD) measurement in the storage ring TERAS BL-5 at AIST, Tsukuba, Japan. This beamline equipped with the four-period Onuki-type crossed undulator [1] as an insertion device. Since natural VUV-CD is known to be weak signal, at most 1 % of photo-absorption, high-sensitive AC modulation spectroscopic method is required for accurate CD measurement. This undulator can modulate the circular and linear polarization relatively high frequencies, up to 5 Hz, sufficient for AC modulation spectroscopy. Figure 1 shows the optical arrangement of BL-5 and a schematic diagram of the VUV-CD and LD simultaneous measurement system. The Seya-Namioka type VUV monochrometer is equipped with several holographic concave gratings which cover the wavelength region from 40 to 250 nm. The wavelength resolution of monochrometer, λ/∆λ, was estimated to be greater than 1000. Since polarization of undulator radiation was disturbed by the optics, Stokes vectors of incident light are determined in order to obtain the accurate CD and LD spectra [2]. Details of the AC-modulated VUV-CD and LD spectroscopic method have been described elsewhere [3-5]. Figure 2 shows the VUV-CD spectra of L-, Dand DL-Leu films and VUV-LD of D-Leu films measured with our system and conventional CD and LD spectrometer. The obtained spectra show good consistency with spectra measured by conventional methods at wavelength down to 185 nm. The VUV-CD spectra of Land D-Leu films showed an obvious symmetry and the spectra of DL-Ala showed no spectral feature in the wavelength region from 160 to 210 nm. Moreover, we have already succeeded in measuring the VUV-CD spectra at wavelength down to 120nm [3].

Undulator Radiation in a Waveguide
We propose an analytical approach to characterize undulator radiation near resonance, when the presence of the vacuum-pipe considerably affects radiation properties. This is the case of the far-infrared undulator beamline at the Free-electron LASer (FEL) in Hamburg (FLASH), that will be capable of delivering pulses in the TeraHertz (THz) range. This undulator will allow pump-probe experiments w...

2014 We present VUV emission spectra taken on the ACO storage ring from the permanent magnet undulator NOEL (1), currently dedicated to free electron laser experiments, along with an overview at the properties of undulator radiation. The analysis of the spectra includes corrections for the emittance of the electron beam and a small mismatch between the direction of the measurement and the undul...

SPECIES is an undulator-based soft X-ray beamline that replaced the old I511 beamline at the MAX II storage ring. SPECIES is aimed at high-resolution ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS), near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure (NEXAFS), X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) experiments. The beamline has two branches that use a c...

BL-17A is a new structural biology beamline at the Photon Factory, Japan. The high-brilliance beam, derived from the new short-gap undulator (SGU#17), allows for unique protein crystallographic experiments such as data collection from microcrystals and structural determination using softer X-rays. However, microcrystal experiments require robust beam stability during data collection and minor f...
متن کاملAn ultrafast x-ray detector system at an elliptically polarizing undulator beamline
An ultrafast x-ray detector system is under development at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) for application primarily to study of ultrafast magnetization dynamics. The system consists of a fs laser, an x-ray streak camera and an elliptically polarization undulator (EPU) beamline. Polarized x-rays from an EPU can be used to measure x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) of a sample...
